Heartland Consumers Power District opened the doors to its new headquarters in Madison’s Lakeview Industrial Park on January 19.
The 9,400 square foot facility is expected to be South Dakota’s first LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) Certified Platinum building. According to John Knofczynski, Manager of Engineering and Operations, Heartland won’t officially find out its achieved LEED certification until early this spring. The building’s design plans were submitted to the US Green Building Council in 2009 and the waste management and construction documentation will be submitted by February 2010. Designed by Koch Hazard Architects, Heartland’s building features sustainable site development, water and energy efficiencies and the use of recycled materials and resources. Also at least 35% of the building’s power will be Green-E certified, supplied in part by the Wessington Springs Wind Farm and on-site roof-mounted solar panels.
Heartland’s new physical mailing address is 432 SE 12th Street, Madison, SD 57042. The PO Box remains 248. For photos of the new headquarters building, visit http://twitpic.com/photos/HCPD.
