Our Board has unanimously approved a $1,000,040 loan to the Rural Learning Center (RLC) in Howard. This loan is the final financing package for development of South Dakota’s second newly constructed LEED Platinum building. Heartland and the RLC have forged a strong partnership for LEEDing the way to energy-efficient building practices in South Dakota. This is the beginning of a green energy corridor from Madison to Howard. RLC leader Randy Parry and his Board have chosen investment in the future rather than a limited focus on the near-term bottom line. Heartland and the RLC have put our money in available technologies to cut energy use by as much as 50%. We did not need a mandate or complex, expensive regulations to make this investment. The business case and the already available technology go together for long-term savings as well as a cleaner environment.
