Heartland hosted its seventh annual Summer Conference yesterday at the Lakes Restaurant and Golf Course near Lake Madison, SD. Nearly 100 individuals listened to presentations about Heartland’s economic development programs, utility rate mitigation and pending EPA/DOE measures and their effect on public power. Participants were also treated to a lunch, during which special guest speaker South Dakota Governor Dennis Daugaard addressed the crowd.
Following the conference, guests had the option to participate in the Heartland Invitational, a four-person, scramble golf tournament, or enjoy a pontoon tour of Lake Madison.
Participants in the day’s events included mayors, finance officers, electric superintendents, council members and economic development officials from Heartland’s customer communities. Also present were state legislators, field representatives from the offices of South Dakota’s U.S. Legislators, and officials from various state offices and entities, such as the Governor’s Office of Economic Development, South Dakota Municipal League, First District Association of Local Governments, South Dakota Public Utilities Commission, and more.
